






All is stable in appearance, but fire roars at the bottom of the ocean, under the earth's crust covered with fields of algae. There is a threat, yet life is sweet. We travel from island to island in the Gulf of Naples. We fall asleep as the breeze rises, we are pebble among pebbles. Then, paths of visibility open up in a world of abstract coalitions. There are human silhouettes, strange forms, a geometrisarion of relationships, symbols that we may not recognize, but are operative. Renée Lorie's photographs in shades of grey are the result of a deep silence, a solitude that is not loneliness but an invitation to be fully alive. The frame here does not cut, does not slice, is not violence of caesura, primarily it is a question of taking fragements of reality, like an archeologist of the present who observes traces, signs, lines in the dust and the light of the days. Through detail, Renée Lorie's eye sails the substance of myth in these Medterranean territories.
Here images can thus be compared to Indigenous American dream-catchers whose slow movements proceed at the same time from those of the wind and the unconscious. In the madness of our daily affairs, Renée Lorie proposes densities of presence, with an ecology of the glance stubbornly not seeking to hierarchize the objects of the world.
Above all, it is important to deepen our sense of poetic existence, not through the prettiness of forms that are sufficient in themselves, but through the beauty of their mystery. The photographer travels to islands because they allegorize our need for protection and our desire for retreat, our dreams of harmonious societies and our temptation to isolation.
Open to lovers as well as to fearsome sphinxes, there are tombs of surrection, fixed boats launched into the flow of time. One is free to practice strange rites, as well as to kiss for a long time, far from turpitudes and compromises of the socially suffocated world of the near continent.
